After I had completed my designs and before I started to animated I created some story boards.
Even though I was not going to include a voice over I recorded one to listen to whilst animating in order to get the timing correct;
I wanted to make my designs look more hand-drawn.
I went back to experimenting with the visuals and doodles as well as drew my own type so I could scan it in and re-draw in Illustrator.
After looking at my Film Criteria list I realised I needed to use a square format as this meant it would take up more of the smaller screen and this was a common format used in online videos on social media.
I decided to try use different food as wheels to suggest comfort eating;
I decided to go with the donuts as they’re brighter and stand out more. I also intend to rotate the wheels during animation and think the detail in the darker objects will get lost when rotating.
I also thought I should emphasise the numbers more;
I also played around with the line thickness and applying the Turbulant Displace effect onto the lines to make them look wiggly and hand drawn. (first two images have the effect applied).
I also tried adding paper textures to emphasize the hand-drawn ideas;
I tried to get more of a consistent doodle feel with my illustrations so re-designed the opening titles;
I also did a moving test to see how it could be animated;
Although I think it looks great and has more of a consistent doodle when I viewed the design on social media (above image) I don’t think it stood out and caught people’s attention.
I think I need to add some colour to the designs. I also want my designs to have a more hand made feel to them so I have considered ways I could create this;
Here are images of my initial sketches and visual experiments I did during the designing stage of my project.
My plan is to create a long static image and animate the camera panning across the image to reveal certain elements. To create contrast in order to make it stand out I wanted a white background with dark text and illustrations and bright images.
Below is my first draft of my design.
Looking at my designs I don’t really feel they have a consistent ‘doodle’ feel to them and I don’t think they’re very appealing.
So from here I will go back, starting with the title and try to get more of a doodle style.
